The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed its plan to increase the wheeling capacity of the national grid from 7,000 megawatts (MW) to 9,000MW before the end of 2018.
Speaking during the 23rd monthly meeting with operators in the power sector in Nasarawa, TCN’s Interim Managing Director, Mr. Usman Gur Mohammed, said the company intended to embark on a massive re-conductoring of transmission lines across the country this year.
He said: “This is expected to significantly increase the wheeling capacity of TCN (between 2,000MW to 3,000MW). TCN is already in discussions with World Bank to use the balance under the Nigeria Electricity and Gas Improvement Project (NEGIP) to procure the conductors.”
