MEMPHIS, Tennessee – June 6, 2017 – ConocoPhillips, the multinational energy corporation headquartered in Houston, Texas, received the inaugural Ducks Unlimited Corporate Conservation Achievement Award Saturday, June 3, at DU’s 80th Annual National Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
The award was created to recognize corporations from the United States, Canada or Mexico that have made exceptional contributions to conservation in North America.
“ConocoPhillips has a long and storied history with the conservation community and specifically with Ducks Unlimited,” said Ducks Unlimited Past President and Chairman of the Board George Dunklin, Jr. “The partnership spans more than 25 years, and countless acres have been impacted, improved and protected throughout North America due to this company’s vision and generosity. ConocoPhillips and Ducks Unlimited have partnered together on numerous projects, but those we’ve collaborated on in the Gulf Coast region highlight ConocoPhillips’ commitment to coastal restoration and DU’s technical expertise at delivering on-the-ground work.”
Dunklin and DU CEO Dale Hall presented the award to ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan Lance.
“On behalf of the people of ConocoPhillips, we’re sincerely honored to accept the Ducks Unlimited Corporate Conservation Achievement Award,” Lance told the gathering of nearly 1,000 Ducks Unlimited volunteers. “We’re committed to stewardship of the earth’s environmental endowment for multiple reasons. We consider this a prerequisite to earning what we call our ‘license to operate’ – society’s permission to conduct our business. Beyond that, we believe it’s the right thing to do.”
In addition to the Ducks Unlimited-ConocoPhillips Coastal Restoration Partnership headed by ConocoPhillips’ Director of Coastal Wetlands Phil Precht, ConocoPhillips has provided significant philanthropic support to DU dating back to 1990 and supported conservation efforts in the Central Flyway through the Playa Lakes Joint Venture for many years. ConocoPhillips’ Senior Vice President Andrew Lundquist volunteers his time to serve on the board for Wetlands America Trust, the land trust arm of Ducks Unlimited.
ConocoPhillips’ varied commitment to conservation across North America exemplifies the many ways corporations and Ducks Unlimited can work together to achieve common goals. Ducks Unlimited has 80 years of experience delivering wetland restoration and enhancement projects across North America. These projects provide waterfowl habitat, infrastructure protection, water quality enhancement and community resilience on a grand scale.
