E.ON reached another milestone in the market for distributed energy solutions in Italy. E.ON Connecting Energies successfully commissioned a high-efficiency cogeneration unit for Goglio, an industrial customer. The unit, consisting of a 4.4 megawatt gas-fired combined heat and power plant and a 1.6 megawatt absorption chiller generates electricity, heat, and cooling for industrial processes at a Goglio facility in Daverio, in northern Italy. It will enable Goglio, one of the world’s leading packaging companies, to reduce its electricity costs by 30 percent, its energy costs by 20 percent, and its carbon emissions by 6,300 metric tons annually.
Robert Hienz, CEO of E.ON Connecting Energies, said: “We’re pleased that this marks the start of a long-term energy partnership.” The partnership will be showcased at the Goglio booth at EXPO 2015 in Milan. At a joint event, Goglio and E.ON will present the potential of distributed energy solutions.
The partnership with Goglio highlights E.ON Connecting Energies’ ambitions in the Italian market: “Italy is among the core markets of our growing company. We have ambitious objectives and intend to expand our business there,” Hienz added.
Essen-based E.ON Connecting Energies specialises in integrated energy solutions for industrial, commercial and public-sector customers.
