France Gaz Congress 2025 Highlights Growth Opportunities in French Energy Sector

Paris, September 25, 2025 – The France gas 2025 Congress, organized at the MEDEF auditorium, the French gas sector brought together the entire ecosystem of energy decision-makers to advance the necessary changes in the sector. During his speech Frédéric Martin, President of France gas reaffirmed the commitment of the sector to achieve the 2030 goals set by France and to build the next steps towards 2050.

Martin also recalled the concrete achievements of the sector in favor of a competitive and sovereign energy transition, highlighting the collective efforts of its member companies across the French territories.

“The French gas sector is mobilized towards the 2030 goal, it is transforming and adapting. We will become the fastest vehicle to decarbonize our economy,” said Frédéric Martin, President of France Gas

Under the theme “CAP 2030: Acting for a competitive transition”, the France gaz Congress was an opportunity to draw up an overview of energy issues. Thus, despite a geopolitical context in tension and a maintenance of global demand for fossil fuels, the gas sector has begun its transformation.

This is evidenced by the breakthrough orchestrated by all renewable and low-carbon molecules (biomethane, bioLNG, hydrogen or biogenic CO2) in the mix. They are now called to play a structuring role in the energy transition, in complementarity with other decarbonized vectors.

In France, production projects mark a strong acceleration with, to date, more than 3.5 TWh/year entered the register, more than the whole of the year 2024, which is in addition to 16 TWh of production capacity.

Beyond production projects, the Congress highlighted the successes of the French gas sector:

  • Biomethane: in 5 years, 7000 jobs created, 3 billion turnover, and 85% added value in the territories, a leading sector in Europe
  • Hydrogen: 1 GW installed, target of 4.5 GW for 2030.
  • Biopropane: development of an offer in rural areas.
  • Biogenic CO2: sectors in structuring and fast growth.
  • Industrial innovation: 100% French Ch0C boiler, hybrid PAC, CCS/CCUS in development.

For their part, gas infrastructures demonstrate daily their resilience to climate change, and their ability to accommodate new molecules at reduced cost. They are an essential vector of decarbonization, including in rural areas.

In this context, Frédéric Martin regretted “the lack of publication of the PPE3 decree that hinders the investments and visibility of the sector for 2030” and called for overcoming ideological struggles to focus on real emergencies: competitiveness, growth and energy sovereignty

A clear vision, including for Europe

He also stressed that an unambiguous commitment to technological neutrality in public policies, in particular European policies, is essential to enable each industry players to choose the solutions best suited to their economic and ecological issues.

Expectations for a successful transition

With these findings, France gas formulates five priority requests to the public authorities:

  1. Strong political support for the renewable and low-carbon gas sector.
  2. Recognition of the carbon content of renewable gases for all uses.
  3. Real technological neutrality in regulatory texts.
  4. A quick alignment with European rules.
  5. Support for future technologies (pyrogasification, hydrothermal gasification, power-to-methane).

A strategic partnership

In addition, at the congress, France gas and FNADE signed an agreement to promote the energy recovery of waste through innovative and sustainable solutions, in order to accelerate the production of green gas and promote the circular economy. It also reflects the industry’s commitment to building bridges with other worlds and industrial sectors.

Women of energy in the spotlight

France gas has also highlighted the women who manage and transform the energy sector, through a symbolic photo. This highlight brought together influential leaders from the gas and energy world, to enhance their role, encourage vocations and assert their place in decision-making bodies.
