Fugro has been awarded a contract by Elia, Belgium’s electricity transmission system operator, for the capture and 3D modelling of part of its network of overhead transmission lines.
Applying its innovative Roames asset inspection and modelling solution, Fugro will deliver accurate 3D models of the power company’s overhead lines combined with intelligent, cloud-based analytics to extract valuable information on vegetation management. The Roames virtual world asset management service will assist Elia in delivering a modern, reliable and resilient power grid focused on improving cost benefits in vegetation management.
“The Elia Group is currently developing tools and services to boost grid management efficiency in the future. Fugro’s Roames solution dovetails seamlessly with Elia’s strategy of continuous optimisation as it provides timely and valuable asset intelligence to help us manage our network efficiently and introduce the notion of risk-based pruning,” said Eric Cloet, Senior Expert at Elia.
Using Roames, Fugro monitors more than one million network spans annually, with the service currently available in Australia, Europe and the United States. Live demonstrations of Fugro’s Roames asset management solutions can be seen at two forthcoming international conference events – CIGRE 2016 Technical Exhibition and European Utility Week Conference (details at www.fugro.com/media-centre/events).
