Expert marine consultancy Global Maritime announce their latest contract win, securing a complete marine warranty package for a project key in the development of Poland’s energy sector.
The win is the latest for the globally operational consultancy, who already have a hugely successful track record with projects across Europe and the United States including several fixed and floating offshore wind projects for major developers.
The Baltic Power project, which has an expected capacity of up to 1.2 GW and due to come online in 2026, is a joint venture by Northland Power and ORLEN Group. And, whilst the packages are usually split across different components, Global Maritime have been awarded the entire suite of packages.
Ekkehard Stade, Director of Marine Services for Global Maritime, said: “We’re seeing our market share in offshore wind grow exponentially in recent times largely owing, I think, to our track record. We have demonstrated we can deliver pragmatic solutions and mitigate risk on time and to budget. Offering our clients that careful balance which keeps the project timeline moving and satisfying the requirements of the insurers is vital.”
“This is a truly global project, making it the ideal fit for us. We’ll focus on local content for onsite activities to keep project costs under control, with the ability to draw on the extensive knowledge resource of our global network of highly skilled engineers combined with experienced Master Mariners.” he added.
Global Maritime’s professional and pragmatic approach to marine warranty is not something that has gone unnoticed, as EPCI Director for Baltic Power Cat Brown notes: “We’re delighted to have Global Maritime onboard. Their track record and extensive experience in marine warranty as well as their local presence in Poland makes them a great partner for our project, that once constructed in 2026 will be one of the first large scale offshore wind farms in the Polish sector producing energy for more than 1.5mil Polish households.
“Their resources and approach will largely support our project, we’re looking forward to working with the team,” she concluded.
The Baltic Power offshore wind farm will be built some 23km off the Polish coast, near the city of Łeba and Choczewo. In June this year, the company was the first to complete geotechnical surveys of the seabed in the area of the farm. In July, the company signed, among other things, a reservation agreement for the transport and installation of the turbines, thus securing one of the 15 specialised installation vessels available worldwide. At the beginning of September, Baltic Power announced preferred suppliers of wind turbines, onshore substation and cables. Thus, the company has secured contracts for all key components of the farm. When completed in 2026, the Baltic Power will be one the largest offshore wind farms in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea.
