Italy To Host Largest Biomass Conference and Exhibition In June 2023

The European Biomass Conference & Exhibition (EUBCE) is not only a stage for promoting pioneering research in science and technology, EUBCE is the largest biomass conference and exhibition in the world. The event will be held from 5 – 8 June 2023 in-person and online in Bologna, Italy.

Each year, EUBCE brings together the greatest minds and latest advancements in biomass, with the aim of accelerating research and market uptake across the globe.

During the conference, over 2,000 experts from both academia and industry share and discuss groundbreaking ideas, technologies, applications, and solutions for the sourcing, production, and utility of biomass.

It is also an event that welcomes and supports women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), with previous years’ attendance boasting an almost 50:50 gender balance.

Its 31st edition will be the first in-person event in over 3 years; but will, by no means, be a return “back” to anything. Rather, EUBCE 2023 will be hybrid, to continue the global reach enabled by the virtual platform used in recent years. It will be focused on six relevant conference topics.

Since its 30th edition, the event has been complemented by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking efficacy at identifying innovation, stimulating investment, and mobilising the bio-based industry sector.

The Technical Programme is coordinated by DG Joint Research Centre of the European Commission.

Nicolae Scarlat, EUBCE Technical Programme Chair commented, ““The implementation of the transition towards a low carbon economy requires measures transforming the energy and transport system. Renewable energies are critical for achieving the climate goals. Several biomass technologies can play an important role in the decarbonisation of the economy, as part of a circular economy.

“Biomass offers now several solutions in the energy transition, through a range of technologies to produce energy, sustainable fuels and biobased materials and chemicals.

“Bioenergy provides flexible and secure low carbon power generation, enabling high shares of variable renewable energies in the electricity grid, such as wind or solar. Bioenergy and carbon capture and storage can play a key role, on short term, in balancing the greenhouse gas emissions for the sectors of the economy that will inevitably remain carbon dependent, as an available industrial-scale solution for achieving negative emissions.

“Renewable fuels are major elements of the near future and ready solutions for sectors that are hard to decarbonise, in particular the aviation and maritime transport, relying on local sustainable biomass resources and short supply chains.

“I invite you to join the EUBCE 2023 to present and discuss your latest scientific achievements and developments of industrial biomass applications on these areas, in scientific and industry sessions, in plenary, oral and poster sessions and in several side events. As usual, scientific work will receive recognition during EUBCE 2023, through the Linneborn Prize for outstanding contributions to the development of energy from biomass, Student Awards to young scientists or Poster Awards rewarding exceptional visual presentations. During EUBCE, the European Biomass Industry Association gives its annual prize to companies for their effort in supporting biomass development at commercial and industrial level. I look forward to meeting you all in person in Bologna in June 2023, but also online.”

Be part of the 31st European Biomass Conference and Exhibition and present your products and services to specialists and decision makers operating at the top end of the biomass and bioenergy sector.
