NGA Elects New Executive Council for 2022-2024 Term

By Ndubuisi Micheal Obineme

The Nigerian Gas Association (NGA) has elected new Executive Council members for a two-year term beginning from 2022 – 2024. The NGA Board has also elected Mr. Akachukwu NWOKEDI, General Counsel/Company Secretary, Nigeria LNG Ltd, as President of the Nigerian Gas Association. As NGA President, Mr. Akachukwu NWOKEDI will oversee the strategic direction of the association, which represents numerous stakeholders in the gas sector within the Nigerian oil and gas industry.

“Over the past 22 months as president of this noble association, it has been extremely busy and interesting as we have continued to work in fully defining the deliverables of the Nigerian Decade of Gas,” said ED Ubong, NGA outgoing president.

“The NGA has continued its advocacy campaign via engagement with various stakeholders in the ministry of petroleum resources, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), and has also participated at over 10 conferences both locally and international.

“We are continuing to ensure the promotion and utilization of natural gas as a preferred energy source in Nigeria. Furthermore, we have been able to impact more individuals within the gas industry through our training programs with the support of a wide facilitator’s expertise that is unique and exists only within the Natural Gas Association.

“I would like to reiterate the need to focus on the seven thematic areas for delivery during this decade of gas, namely: Ensuring that Nigerians use gas to provide power; ensuring that Nigeria uses gas to cook the homes; Ensuring that there is also gas for export; Accelerating infrastructural development via virtual and physical pipeline development; Continuing to advocate with government to ensure that there is a stable regulatory climate that would allow both domestic and foreign investment to thrive; accelerate to a willing buyer and willing seller as quick as possible; Ensure that we get domestic gas to local industries because this is the bedrock for the manufacturing industry and local development as well as creating the enabling environment that will move Nigeria towards becoming a developed country.

“At this point, I would like to thank my executive council and board members for all their numerous support towards the Nigerian Gas Association,” Ubong added.
