Silurian develops cutting-edge AI modules for major industries and Hurricane forecasting

By Ndubuisi Micheal Obineme

Silurian, a US startup company, is developing cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for critical assets in major industries, as well as AI modules used in tracking, forecasting hurricanes and their impact on infrastructures across industries.

Speaking in an interview with The Energy Republic at Viva Tech 2025 in Paris, Cristian Bodnar, Co-founder and Chief Scientist of Silurian, stated that the company builds and customizes foundation models to simulate the impact of weather on critical assets and infrastructure in major industries, including the energy sector.

Bodnar noted that Silurian is an AI company building weather modules customized for major industries, including government organizations.

According to him, Silurian works with multinational companies such as TotalEnergies, alongside other industry players, for large-scale projects.

“We build modules that are specifically for their needs and operations,” he explained, noting that Silurian is building personalized weather modules for TotalEnergies wind farms.

“We also have other partnerships with companies in developing modules to detect Ice rinks for their energy grids.

“We developed customized Ice rink modules based on customer data. Our modules are designed to collect and analyze data.

“We are everywhere and offering our solutions globally,” he stated.

Speaking about Silurian AI modules to track natural disasters, Bodnar said that the company also develops customized AI solutions for hurricane forecasting.

He said, “Silurian is currently working with a Disaster Tech US-based company on a project focused on hurricane forecasting.

“We are about to release a module that is specifically trained to forecast hurricanes,” he disclosed, adding that the company is using Silurian modules for its customers affected by hurricanes.

In addition, he said Silurian modules also provide AI solutions for oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico/America.

“Our modules provide information and forecasting about when a Hurricane might affect their operations.”

“We are expanding our customer base to demonstrate our modules for major industries.

“We have been getting customers from diverse application areas, mostly in the energy sector,” he added.

Silurian AI: A New Standard in Safeguarding Critical Infrastructures
Silurian is a team of PhDs and engineers with backgrounds in the most prestigious AI research labs.

As part of its success stories, Silurian conducted a study on the 2024 Hurricane season that predicted Hurricane Beryl’s path into Texas 3 days earlier than the European and American weather agencies.

While the global energy transition moves into the renewable energy space, coupled with the continuous increase in electricity demand triggered by emerging technologies such as electric vehicles and data centers development for artificial intelligence. This induces a lot of volatility and instability in the electricity grid. Silurian’s AI modules can help anticipate and mitigate by predicting the weather and how it will affect the grid.

In January 2025, Silurian released its first product, an API for weather forecasting and energy, powered by GFT 1.3. This is the latest version of the Silurian foundation model.

The company’s target is to deploy, test, and scale these solutions in real-world settings with partners across multiple sectors.
