Statoil receives consent for Exploration Drilling at Johan Sverdrup

Statoil has received consent to drill an appraisal well at Johan Sverdrup. Statoil is the operator of the Johan Sverdrup field, in the North Sea, around 140 kilometres west of Stavanger. The field is under development and production is planned to start in 2019.

The PSA has given consent to drill exploration well 16/2-22, which is an appraisal well. The consent also applies to a possible sidetrack from this well.
Drilling is scheduled to begin in December 2016 and estimated to last 30 days. Water depth at the site is around 110 metres.
The well will be drilled by the Deepsea Atlantic mobile facility, which is a semi-submersible drilling unit of the MODU GVA 7500 type. The facility is operated by Odfjell Drilling AS. Deepsea Atlantic was completed in 2009, is registered in Norway and is classified by DNV GL.
Deepsea Atlantic was issued with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) by the PSA in July 2009.
