Volkswagen to invest 340 million dollars in US plant

German car manufacturing giant Volkswagen has announced it will boost its SUV offensive in the United States to the tune of 340 million dollars.

The investment is to be made in VW’s Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, the company said on Monday, where the five-door “Made in America” model is under development.

The announcement comes amid tensions between the European Union and US over trade, following President Donald Trump’s threat to slap tariffs on cars imported from Europe.

The new VW model is a smaller version of the SUV Atlas, launched on the US market in 2017. VW has already invested 900 million dollars in the Chattanooga plant.
