The National Bureau of Statistics in its Premium Motor Spirit (Petrol) Price Watch for the month of February has revealed that consumers paid as much as N177 to purchase a litre of petrol in some parts of the country.
Despite the economic recession, consumers of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Yobe, Sokoto and Taraba paid N177, N162.1 and 161.7per litre respectively in February 2017.
This is above the regulated price of N145 per litre, as specified by the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA).
Average price paid by consumers for premium motor spirit (petrol) increased by 50.1% year-on-year and 0.7% month-on-month to N149.8 in February 2017 from N148.7 in January 2017.
States with the highest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Yobe (N177), Sokoto (N162.1) & Taraba (161.7).
According to NBS, states with the lowest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Lagos (N144.9), Delta (N144.8) and Osun (N144.7).
A further analysis of the report releaseds yesterday revealed that Kogi State has the highest average price in the North Central for February 2017 while Abuja has the least average price.
Ondo State has the highest average price in the South West for February 2017 while Osun State has the least average price
The Agency said Ebonyi State has the highest average price in the South East for February 2017 while Anambra State has the least average price.
This is despite assurance from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), that it has adopted an elaborate measure to sustain supply of petrol, diesel, and kerosene in the country.
