G20 Strengthens Argentine power links with organizations in Africa and North America

Pedro Villagra Delgado was in South Africa and Ethiopia to strengthen relations with African organizations. He also presented the priorities of the G20 2018 at the UN in New York, and met with representatives of the G7, Canada.

The sherpa of Argentina before the G20, Pedro Villagra Delgado, toured internationally to strengthen the relationship with regional and global organizations.

As coordinator of the G20 policy in Argentina and adviser and representative of the President, the sherpa held a meeting agenda at the United Nations (UN) and three countries: Canada, Ethiopia and South Africa.

Sherpa tour from 5 to 17 February included meetings with senior UN officials and a presentation of the G20 agenda before the General Assembly.

There he highlighted the joint work to address the main issues of a changing world and presented the three priorities of the G20 2018: the future of work, infrastructure development and sustainable food future. He also held a meeting with Amina Mohammed, deputy secretary general of the UN; Liu Zhenmin, head of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs and sherpa UN for the G20, and Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, executive director of UN Women, with whom he discussed the inclusion of a gender perspective in all points Argentina agenda of the G20 presidency.

In Ottawa, Canada, he held coordination meetings with Jonathan Fried, Canadian sherpa G20, and Peter Boehm, sherpa G7, a forum that brings together the most industrialized democracies in the world (Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Britain, Japan and Italy).

In Pretoria, South Africa, Villagra Delgado participated in a roundtable discussion on development priorities for Africa in the G20. There were also South Africa ‘s sherpa, the ambassadors of Rwanda (Chairperson of the African Union in 2018) and Senegal, and representatives of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development and T20 (academic community) and the B20 (business), two seven civil society groups involved in the G20 process. Anil Sooklal, South African sherpa, highlighted the approach of Argentina presidency to African concerns.

In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Argentina ‘s sherpa held meetings with senior officials of the African Union, the regional body that brings together all African countries, the Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) and representatives of member countries, in addition to Ethiopian ministers. With all the sherpa highlighted the link between the G20 2018 and the continent, exchanging ideas on the agenda and possible synergy.

In UNECA also he led a workshop on Africa’s priorities in relation to the central axis of the G20 2018. And the African Union Villagra Delgado met with Mourad Ben Dhiab, general secretary of the commission of the organization and with other commissioners.
