Louisiana is taking its global relations to the next level with the launch of the Louisiana Global Leadership Exchange (LGLE), a new international initiative designed to transform the state’s deep cultural connections with Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America into concrete opportunities for trade, investment, education, and economic development.

The inaugural LGLE 2026, taking place from 23 – 25 October, 2026, in Paris, brings together Louisiana elected officials, companies, businesses and industry leaders, universities, economic development organizations, diplomats, and government representatives for a focused program built around direct connections and potential partnerships.

“Louisiana has always had a powerful cultural connection to the world. LGLE is about turning that connection into opportunity,” said Lady Fontenette Brown, LGLE’s Chief Cultural Ambassador, in an interview with The Energy Republic. “We want participants to leave Paris knowing not only who they met, but what they can build together and what the next step should be.”

Unlike a traditional large-scale conference, she stated that LGLE is structured as a strategic business and partnership platform featuring country presentations, business opportunities, and facilitated matchmaking.

According to her, a key component of the Louisiana Global Leadership Exchange is its Regional Ambassador structure, which connects international participants directly with Louisiana elected leaders who understand the industries, infrastructure, institutions and economic opportunities within the regions they represent.

Chief Regional Ambassador Louisiana State Senator Edward J. “Ed” Price represents Senate District 2, a region positioned along one of Louisiana’s most important economic corridors. His district encompasses portions of Ascension, Assumption, Iberville, Lafourche, St. James, St. John the Baptist and West Baton Rouge parishes and connects to the Mississippi River industrial corridor, the Port of South Louisiana and the Port of Greater Baton Rouge system, along with major energy, petrochemical, manufacturing, logistics, transportation and agricultural activity.

The Port of South Louisiana serves St. James and St. John the Baptist parishes, while the Port of Greater Baton Rouge’s jurisdiction includes Ascension, Iberville and West Baton Rouge parishes, creating direct connections to international shipping, barge, rail, highway and global trade networks.

In her words, the Exchange will also connect participants to Iberia Parish, another major Louisiana economic region where agriculture, energy, maritime commerce, manufacturing and aviation converge. Iberia Parish President M. Larry Richard is serving as one of LGLE’s Regional Ambassadors, providing participants with direct regional leadership and insight into opportunities throughout the parish.

Iberia Parish is home to a significant agricultural sector, particularly sugarcane production, as well as the Port of Iberia, Acadiana Regional Airport and the U.S. Highway 90/future Interstate 49 economic corridor. Iberia Parish Government’s Economic Development District specifically incorporates the Port of Iberia and Acadiana Regional Airport as strategic economic-development assets.

Through these meetings, she emphasized that the international participants should expect more than a traditional introduction to an elected official. Regional Ambassadors will help participants understand the economic character of their respective regions, identify where a company, investment or partnership may fit, and connect participants with the businesses, institutions, industry leaders and local partners necessary to continue the conversation beyond Paris.

Supporting that process will be 2026 LGLE Business Facilitator Ryan K. Haynie, Managing Partner of Haynie & Associates. Haynie works at the intersection of business, government and public policy and leads strategic initiatives for clients across Louisiana. His experience includes economic development, energy and natural resources, transportation and infrastructure, legislative strategy and executive branch relations.

As Business Facilitator, Haynie will help participants navigate Louisiana’s business and governmental landscape, identify appropriate connections and help move conversations generated through the Exchange toward meaningful next steps.

Meanwhile, the Regional Ambassadors provide the regional doorway into Louisiana. The Business Facilitator helps participants navigate what comes next. Together, the model is designed to turn introductions in Paris into relationships and opportunities that can continue in Louisiana.

“Our current program highlights Louisiana’s industrial corridor, the Port of South Louisiana, the Port of Iberia, Acadiana Regional Airport, Louisiana’s chemical manufacturing sector, and the businesses and institutions connected to those assets,” she revealed.

“The major opportunity areas include energy, petrochemicals, manufacturing, ports and maritime, aviation, logistics, agriculture, healthcare and biotechnology, digital infrastructure, education, tourism, and the creative economy.

In addition, she noted that the LGLE is focused on building relationships, with the energy sector a particular area of potential collaboration with African markets, where demand for energy infrastructure, technical expertise, natural gas, electricity, renewables, and industrial development continues to create opportunities for international partnerships.

The inaugural exchange also marks the beginning of a longer-term initiative.

“Paris is the introduction. The real value will be what happens after Paris,” she said. “Our goal is to bring the Exchange home to Louisiana in 2027 and develop it into a recurring Louisiana-led international exchange.”
