Oklahoma City, OK — The Oklahoma Department of Commerce is welcoming the addition of Century Aluminum as a partner to Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) in the development of a primary aluminum smelter in Inola, Oklahoma, the first to be built in the United States in nearly 50 years.

“This project represents one of the most transformational economic development opportunities in Oklahoma’s history,” said John Budd, CEO of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce. “With EGA’s global expertise and Century Aluminum, a U.S.-based industry leader, joining the project, this collaboration brings together the right experience, strength and long-term commitment to successfully move an investment of this scale forward. We are thrilled about the momentum behind this project and the role Oklahoma will play in strengthening domestic supply chains and supporting the onshoring of critical mineral production.”

Under the joint development agreement, EGA will own 60% of the venture and Century Aluminum will own 40%. The new plant is expected to produce approximately 750,000 tonnes of aluminum per year.

The Inola facility is expected to create 1,000 permanent direct jobs, more than 3,000 additional indirect jobs and approximately 4,000 jobs during construction. This transformational project will position Oklahoma as home to the strongest domestic aluminum supply chain in the nation.
