WEC Italia outlines opportunities to deepen US-Italy relations in major industries

Amid the geopolitical tensions between US and Europe, the World Energy Council (WEC) Italia has outlined opportunities to deepen bilateral relations between the United States and Italy in major industries.

The diplomatic relations between Italy and the United States have deep historical roots, established in 1861, as both countries have become a strong transatlantic partner across major industries.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Energy Republic, Michele Vitiello, Secretary General, World Energy Council – Italia underscored the need to further deepen the bilateral relations, outlining strategic areas to reinforce the transatlantic cooperation.

“Energy cooperation between Italy and the United States is inherently strategic and extends across the value chain,” Vitiello noted, adding that LNG plays a key role in contributing to the transatlantic cooperation.

“But collaboration can deepen in advanced nuclear technologies, including small modular reactors, carbon capture and storage, grid digitalization, and cybersecurity.

“There is also strong potential in strengthening critical mineral supply chains and fostering innovation ecosystems that link research institutions and industrial players, ” he added.

World Energy Council serves as a neutral and strategic platform for dialogue among institutions, industry, academia, and civil society in Italy. The Council is involved in various initiatives and programs aimed to foster multi-energy and multi-stakeholder dialogue for Italian energy sector.

The Italian National Committee of the World Energy Council was founded in Rome in 1988 by national institutions and energy companies.

Word Energy Council Italian Committee promotes the mission and objectives of the World Energy Council, participates in international study program and disseminates its findings nationally, and coordinates member participation in the Council’s activities and major global events. It also organizes events (webinars, conferences, seminars, etc.) and courses, publishes and disseminates studies on the energy sector, provides qualified and up-to-date information on the energy transition at all levels, and promotes ongoing initiatives on specific energy-related topics.
