West Africa’s Major Industry Event Expands To Sub-Saharan Africa
WAIPEC, largest oil and gas event in West African region has expanded to Sub-Saharan Africa which now stands as Sub Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (SAIPEC). The event isn’t only the largest event in the region’s oil and gas hub, but also the only truly industry-led event, held in partnership with the country’s petroleum sector.
In an interview with NDUBUISI MICHEAL OBINEME of Oil and Gas Republic, Chairman of PETAN and member of the SAIPEC Steering Committee, Bank Anthony Okoroafor, said that the event has developed and progressed very rapidly in its three years since inception.
According to him, there have been a collective agreement between the steering committee and organisers of the event to attracting a much wider audience and broaden the event beyond West African region, but also to a much wider audience in Sub-Saharan Africa.
He elaborates: “The theme for SAIPEC 2020 will be ‘Oil and gas as an enabler for economic transformation in Sub-Saharan Africa’. And, there will be a panel discussion on critical issues affecting the oil and gas industry in Sub-Saharan Africa today and how to create value and use energy as an enabler for economic transformation, industrialization and growth opportunities.
“We will assemble seasoned industry stakeholders and experts who will dissect this theme from their perspectives and experiences.”
In 2019, over 3500 attendees participated in total, from 36 countries, including 11 National Oil Companies, CEO/MD’s plus their delegations from Mozambique, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Uganda, Angola, Cameroon, Ghana, Liberia, Equatorial Guinea and Gambia.
Paul Gilbert, Event Director, and member of SAIPEC Organising Committee commented: “With a record-breaking 2,817 exhibition visitors, 650 delegates from across 36 countries, 11 NOC’s, 104 exhibitors and 54 speakers, the 3rd West Africa Petroleum Exhibition and Conference was the most successful edition yet.
“As the event has continued to grow and develop, it is increasingly attracting a much wider and more global audience, particularly a much greater Sub Saharan Africa involvement, hence the progression to the SAIPEC brand moving forward.
“The Sub Saharan Africa International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference will again return to the Eko Convention Centre 25-27 February 2020 for its 4th edition.
“Working directly with PETAN and a team of industry thought leaders; we will draw on these global resources to ensure that the event delivers to the needs of all stakeholders throughout the region
“At present, 60% of the exhibition floor plan has already been booked up so we are looking forward to yet another successful edition for 2020.”
SAIPEC is hosted by the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), an association of Nigerian Indigenous Technical Oilfield service companies in the upstream and downstream sectors of the oil industry.
