Workers at three German nuclear power plants stage one-day walkout
Hanover, Germany (dpa) – Workers at three power plants in north-western Germany are staging a day-long walkout to apply pressure amid labour negotiations, their union said Monday.
About 350 workers were off the job at the plants in Grohnde, Unterweser and Stade, said Moritz Hautman, of the IG BCE union. But the union noted that there is no danger at the plants due to the walkout.
The union is in negotiations with energy company Eon and network operators and wants a 5.5-per-cent raise, but the company is only offering 2.1 per cent.
The Grohnde plant is currently not connected to the grid for maintenance. Unterweser is in action, while Stade is in the process of being demolished.
