On 30 November and 1 December, leading heads of State and Government from around the world will meet in Buenos Aires to take part in the G20 Leaders’ Summit. As the most important event on the group’s annual agenda, the Summit concludes the Argentine presidency’s work in 2018. Discussions will be held to address key issues on today’s international agenda.
Emmanuel Macron, Theresa May, Angela Merkel, Vladimir Putin, Justin Trudeau, Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, together with host president, Mauricio Macri, are among the Summit’s participants. The Summit will take place in South America for the first time in its history. Over two days of discussions held behind closed doors, leaders will build consensus based on progress made in meetings throughout the year with a view to agreeing on a declaration that has fair and sustainable development as its focus.
The official agenda starts on Friday 30 November at 10.30 am, when leaders arrive at the Summit venue, Costa Salguero, a complex located along the Río de la Plata. At 12.30 pm local time, after the official welcome and traditional family photo, President Macri will give the opening remarks at the plenary session, which will be streamed live at the G20 YouTube channel. Once the working sessions are over, leaders will participate in a cultural event at the iconic Colón Theatre.
Official activities continue on Saturday 1 December with morning working sessions. At 2.45 pm local time, once the closed-door sessions are over, Macri will give a press conference to brief on the Summit’s main conclusions. Afterwards, other heads of State and Government may give their own press conferences. All press conferences will be streamed live on the G20 YouTube channel.

The G20 Summit also brings together heads and senior officials of G20 partner organizations, such as the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
10th anniversary
The meeting in Buenos Aires will be held 10 years after the first G20 Leaders’ Summit in Washington D.C., where heads of State and Government from around the world agreed on actions to address the 2008 financial and economic crisis.
Priorities of the Argentine presidency
The Argentine presidency’s main goal is to build consensus for fair and sustainable development. In this regard, Argentina defined three priorities this year, each of which have been addressed with a strong gender focus: the future of work, infrastructure for development and a sustainable food future.
