New security screening lines at Berlin airport take effect

0

New lines for security checks at Berlin’s Tegel airport opened up on Monday, with the end of summer bringing an increase in business travellers and therefore more hand luggage to be checked, an airport official said.

One of the five lines at Terminal D have been expanded and an additional line has been added, increasing the security check capacity at the terminal by 20 per cent, airport spokesman Hannes Stefan Hoenemann said.

Staff have also been added to handle checked baggage. The terminal is heavily used by passengers of Eurowings, the budget carrier of German airline Lufthansa. Reports had grown in recent days that passengers were forced to wait more than an hour after their arrival for their checked luggage.
