Corporate Profile: Robert Schafer, PDAC President
Bob Schafer is the 35thPresident of the Prospectors & Developers of Canada (PDAC). Throughout his +35-year career, Bob has worked in more than 70 countries, largely in North America, but with important efforts in Russia, Australia, China, Afghanistan and India, as well asacross Africa and South America. He is a Registered Professional Geologist in the states of Wyoming and Utah in the United States of America.
Bobhas led exploration teams to the discovery of mines for Billiton Metals,Addwest Gold and Kinross Gold. In 2000, he appliedinnovative strategies that led to a blind gold deposit discovery beneathtens ofmetres of glacial cover in Russia. For the past 10 yearsBob was responsible for identifying, evaluating and structuring transactions for mineral deposits globally at Hunter Dickinson Inc.He recently formed Eagle Mines Management LLC, a private exploration and mining company.
Bob became involved with the PDAC by joining the Convention Planning committee when he moved to Toronto in the mid-1990s. He remained a fixture on the committee until 2014, and eventually acted as Vice Chair. Since becoming a PDAC Director, Bob has served on the Health & Safety, Awards, Executive, and International committees, in addition to participating on several short-term working groups. He also represents the PDAC on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, where he was Chair from 2012 to 2014.
Bobholds a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Geology fromMiami University (Ohio),and completed a second Master’s degree in Mineral Economics at the University of Arizona.In 1995, he went on tocomplete the Executive Business Program at Stanford University.
