NLNG CEO Tony Attah ends tenure in August 2021; Philip Mshelbila to take over

The Board of Directors of Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) at its last board meeting approved the appointment of Dr. Philip Mshelbila as successor to Engr. Tony Attah, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Engr. Attah will return to his parent company, Shell, on 30th August 2021 at the expiration of his five-year tenure at the helm of affairs. Engr. Attah was appointed Chief Executive Officer by the NLNG Board in July 2016.

Dr. Mshelbila, who is rounding-up his tenure as Chief Executive Officer, Atlantic LNG Company of Trinidad & Tobagox, will be taking over from Engr. Attah on 31st August 2021.

NLNG is an incorporated Joint-Venture owned by four Shareholders, namely, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (49%), Shell Gas B.V. (25.6%), Total Gaz Electricite Holdings France (15%), and Eni International N.A. N.V. S.àr.l (10.4%).

Tony Attah has over 25 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry. Prior to his appointment as Managing Director of NLNG in September 2016​, he was the Managing Director and Board Chairman of Shell Nigeria E&P Company (SNEPCo), Vice President for HSE and Corporate Affairs and Vice President, Human Resources (HR) in Shell E&P Africa.

Over his distinguished career across Europe, Russia and Africa, Tony has led various multi-disciplinary teams across diverse cultures. He is renowned for his strong strategic and commercial mind set which is underpinned by a solid technical background and excellent leadership capabilities.

His goal in NLNG remains to sustain the company’s historical excellent performance while working to raise the company to the next level and continuing to make NLNG an inspiration to Nigeria as part of NLNG’s vision of helping to build a better Nigeria.

Tony holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Ibadan and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Benin. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), member of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and member of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
